The
Devil Strikes at Night
From director Robert Siodmak, who made his name
making such top notch Film Noirs during the 1940’s
as “Criss Cross” & “The
Killers”, comes this terrific serial killer
film filled with commentary on the inferiority
of the Aryan police and the Nazi regime.
The movie is very much like “M” for
the masses, but Siodmak’s skill and experience
at making suspense and a foreboding sense of dread
make this something all its own. Juggling political
commentary with a Hitchcock like pace, the film
is a brilliant, if dated, exercise in experimental
suspense.
