Hazlewood: Cowboy in Sweden
Made in 1970, this Swedish TV production is a surreal
variety show packaged around songs from the Lee Hazlewood
album of the same name. The narrative (if you can call
it that) is divided up into different dream segments
that take us through various exploits with Hazlewood
around Sweden. Some of them are musical and some of
them just simply involve Lee telling stories about various
elements of Swedish culture, ranging from subjects as
mundane as the weather and local festivals to cultural
highlights such as the Nobel Price and Ingmar Bergman.
Fans of Mr. Hazlewood will eat this stuff up and if
you don’t already have a fondness for his velvety,
South Western tones, this is a great place to fall in
love.
A highly recommended rariety.
